Wintertime in Kickin' Country can be a beautiful time.  But let's all remember to respect mother nature and old man winter.  Are you ready?  Jumper cables in the trunk?  Sleeping bag or two?  Maybe some candles?  Let's all be good Cub Scouts and be prepared to take care of ourselves and those we are hauling around.   Take a minute today to make sure you're ready for winter travel.  A cell phone is a good thing to have...but let's not count on it to save us or those we love.  Be READY!

At Kickin' Country,  our main concern for our listeners when it comes to weather is safety.  With that in mind, here's a rundown of what we do with the EAS (Emergency Alert System) and why.

#1  You'll hear the tones and automated weather announcement come on LIVE on Kickin' Country.  Yes, it can be annoying on a busy weather day, but we do that for a reason.  That reason is immediacy.  The instant the National Weather Service hits send...You're getting the weather information for our designated weather area.  Since most of our storms come from the west, you'll hear warnings for areas that seem to be way out...when it comes to Sioux Falls.  That's because of the size of our listening area.

#2  When you hear weather warnings on Kickin' Country, that's just like having a weather radio. The instant the National Weather Service issues the warning...you have it.  No waiting.  On TV, if the weather man is reading you or telling you the warning...it's already been issued.

#3  Many radio stations in our area, do not take the warnings LIVE on the air.  At Kickin' Country, we know a warning may interrupt a song...but we also know that someone, somewhere listening to Kickin' Country WANTS to hear that warning.

Whereas we don't like to interrupt listening for anything....weather is the one exception.  We hope you have a safe summer, and know that you can listen to Kickin' Country for the LATEST weather updates....regardless of the time of day.

#4  Another neat phenomenon is the fact that people are posting about weather in their area on Facebook.  Join the conversation...at Facebook@kikncountry.  We'll get  you the same information that Kickin' Country will send information out for severe weather in our designated area.   Oh, and when we're not broadcasting severe weather information...we'll keep your radio Kickin'!  Remember, if there are warnings for the counties that we cover...we'll break in immediately.
